- New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has gone through a bit of everything in his rookie season: A remarkable first half that earned him early MVP recognition; Home Run Derby heroics in Miami; a major, strikeout-filled second-half swoon; and finally, a late homer barrage to push the likely American League Rookie of the Year's season total to 52.
- The judge had his first taste of the game of the exit of Tuesday night and did not disappoint. A broadcast of ESPN reporters was available to chronicle the rookie's big day.
- Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius and a brilliant bullpen rescued New York from a brutal debut and lifted the Yankees to their first triumph after five years.
- Gregorius' three-stroke hock was tied for the spot after Minnesota defeated Luis Severino in the first inning, a pumping judge showed his greatest thrill this season when he hit a two-shot shot during his playoff debut and the Yankees defeated to the twins 8-4 Tuesday night in the AL wild-box game.
- Brett Gardner also scored for the Yankees, who sued Ervin Santana after two innings and again hit the Twins of the playoffs.
- Chad Green, David Robertson, Tommy Kahnle and Aroldis Chapman combined eight innings and two thirds of one and five relays.
- New York opens the AL Division Series on Thursday at the AL Championship, Cleveland. The Twins lost their thirteenth consecutive post-season game, tied to the 1986-95 Boston Red Sox record.
- Brian Dozier led the match with a jonge and Eddie Rosario hit a two-shot run when the Twins took the lead and surprised the 49,280 crowd at the Yankee Stadium.
- But Santana was little better than Severino, relying on 8 of the 11 hitters. Gregorius cleared the lead four hitters in the bottom of the first, and Santana was eliminated after six outings and 64 pitches with the twins behind 4-3.
- Minnesota, the first team to recover from a season of 100 losses and make the playoffs the following year, has been eliminated by the Yankees in five of its last six post-season releases and has not won a series of playoffs since 2002.
- The judge, the 6-foot sensation that scored a rookie record with 52 innings, received a Ruthan ovation, with several sections of fans wearing signs in his honor saying "All Rise!". He scored three races, choosing to help turn on the first training rally, smoking a loser of 108 mph José Berrios on the fourth and entering the seventh and returning home when Alan Busenitz walked Jacoby Ellsbury with loaded bases.

- New York had made only one appearance after the exit of the Post since 2012, losing the game of wild card 2015 in Houston 3-0. Only three Yankees who started this game were in the starting line, part of the Baby Firemen movement that purged the veterans list.
- At the age of 23, Severino was the younger Yankees goaltender since Andy Pettitte in 1995. The right lasted only 29 locations on a crunchy autumn night and coincided with the start more short of the Yankees for Bob Turley in Game 2 of the 1958 World Series and Art Ditmar at the start of the 1960 world series. Dozier scored in the left field seats on a fast 99 mph ball and Rosario aligned a slider just in above the small straight portico.
- Severino shook his head as he headed for the dugout and Green replaced him with runners second and third. Green defeated Byron Buxton and Jason Castro, then hit three in a row in the second.
- Green left the single of Jorge Polanco and some walks in the third. Robertson entered with the bases loaded and the Buxton RBI on the field, then defeated Castro.
- Robertson was tired in the sixth but won the victory, starting from 52 pitches and 3 1/3 innings, in the front row of the race.
- Kahnle got up with a runner and Joe Mauer retired in an airplane to the warning lane. After Kahnle threw 2 1/3 of innings, Chapman hit three against a ninth shot.
- A pitcher named Santana - Johan Santana - beat the Yankees for the victory of the twins in 2004. But Ervin Santana contributed to a first round that lasted 45 minutes and three innings that lasted 1:43 and his post-season career ERA increased to 6.57.
- Gardner walked forward, the judge pushed a single block to the center and Gregorius aligned a fast ball on the right field marker. Brushing the plate a 2-2 pace in the second, Gardner sent Santana the next bid in the second bridge to the right for a 4-3 lead.
- Green hit the side in the second, but left in the third after a single survey and two walks loaded the bases. Buxton struck a scoring force before Robertson hit Castro, and the Yankees were still ahead in the bottom half when Gary Sanchez doubled Berrios who came in and scored in the doubles of Greg Bird
